2018 brought the 1st Annual Healing Cross Project's Charity Night on April 28th. With over 250 guests in attendance, we surpassed our wildest dreams of having a successful evening bringing awareness to human suffering.
The HCP Board honored our guest, Susy Korinko with the first Healing Cross. She was diagnosed with ALS in 2016. Suzy was our guest speaker and spoke of the suffering she had to endure from the disease, but also the lack of apathy from people. She said, "one day I could go to the grocery store and get what I needed. Then in the course of several months, I was in a wheel chair in that same grocery store trying to reach an item from the shelf. You would have thought, someone would have offered to help me. But no, that didn't happen."
Since that evening, over 500 crosses have been sent to recipients all over the world, bringing the message of hope "YOU ARE NEVER ALONE". We have delivered Healing Baskets to those in need. A warm blanket and socks, healthy nutrition, gift cards, meals, helpful books, games, messages of hope and of course a healing cross.
We were also able to redo a 7 yr old's bedroom. She suffers from brain cancer and we wanted to give her a " dream come true". The community came together to help us in this loving gesture. We heard about a young woman who had survived a horrific car accident, and were able to send funds to aid in her healing. Although our mission is to spread the word about human suffering in our daily lives, we are honored to be able to extend the generosity as we are able. With the new year, schlorships will be given out to those that have shown the ability to rise above the suffering they endure.
2019 will bring our second charity night, now called Derrick's Night. We will honor his life by presenting a cross to the next recipient. Also it is imperative that we spread hope to those in need. That it doesn't take much to change someone's life. By giving a damn about someone other than yourselves, will have a huge impact on the world. Several words of kindness and compassion is all it takes!
Please join us!
On behalf of our family, we thank you for the generosity you have shown us during this time of grief. Helen Keller said, "Faith, the strength by which a shattered world shall emerge into the light." We live by faith! Please know that your your kindness has not gone unnoticed and we truly cherish you in our lives. He might have been nobody to some, but he was SOMEBODY to us, Derrick Dean Courtney.
May God Bless You!
